about
myself
sneek, she/her, nov '96, living in estonia, simply trying to enjoy life and bring kindness in this chaotic world. i do exist in some other places online too, usually as either sneakypancake (tumblr) or sneekiblin (lastfm, insta, etc). also have a quick link to my neocities profile ... and feel free to email at sneekrealm [at] proton [dot] me :-)
think it'll be clear what i enjoy from scouring the site!
but - music (as listener), diy shit (mostly handicraft, but won't hesitate with some other things), plenty else but to more lowkey degrees.
the site
had been meaning to do a neocities site for some time, but was inspired in mid-november 2022 after a friend also made one... i guess this is just a little experimental creative thing, just throwing stuff at the canvas, seeing what sticks.
i'd learned some html and css in high school, but never had an html-from-scratch site of my own until this (though see the extra lore about kiddo me online existence below)
have preferred to keep things simple round here design-wise... maybe as not to overwhelm myself too much hahaha; also try to keep things relatively accessible in some sense tho at the end of the day all this is just me fucking around. the current typeface ive set up is comic mono just because i can, just because mobile devices dont have comic sans, and just because... why not?
i generate the site thru eleventy (static site generator), shifted to it w the help of whiona's guide, with a bit of extra wrangling on my end... and the bandcamp tables get generated from csv files with the help of a lil python script i cooked up. the html is spaced terribly as a result of 11ty i suppose, for the time being...
as for the styles (bless kale's style switcher)...
main (light) style simply got some naturey thing going on... not much to say of that one i think! i think initially set the background colour as that on my thoughts.page, and i sorta just carried that over when i made this site.
smile (dark) style grew out of the lil bespoke style colorchoices i made for the lil page dedicated to cartoon smile by oli xl :,) and i'd accidentally made the background fairylights blink close to the song's bpm even, so i just fully synced those up too.
and both of them have special regular and pointer cursors:
i've also made a set of custom horizontal rules for both styles [initially only the latter, you'll know which bit of the smilepage those got inspired by :-)], they're really cute... here they are too:
and, as an intro to the ouch (oof ow) style, have the corresponding one for that one too:
ouch style is just.. terrible. inspired by custom userstyle shenanigans i've done as a gimmick and to occasionally terrorize ppl by sharing screenshots of such (spoilered)
ouch style inspo examples. trust me it's awful, eyestrain warning
some specific stuff i use or have around
i won't go into everything i use cos some of the stuff feels simply average to me. but i have some more specific and/or special things around...
lil old mp3 player
it's an apacer au231, a friend managed to id it for me once (off the "apacer" text and its look). 1gb internal space plus sd card slot i don't use. runs on a single AAA battery. got it in middle school (early 2010s) from some in-school xmas fair's fortune thingy where u pull a ticket for a small price and get some random small item for it.
it sat dormant for ages, until i started using it more from early 2022 onward, first distinct thing i remember doing with it was put oli xl's whole(ish) discography on it, and mechatok's defective holiday ost too (of which i have terminal t6 and presence hotel left now on the player).
working at a shop i have rather reliable access to a discard battery bin, and one time i had a couple people drop by with a battery tester to salvage a few from it, and i mentally noted that and got my own tester some while later (in late 2022). cool in combination. though i do have a set of rechargeables, which i've been using more lately (since july 2024).
btw it doesn't even show track lengths accurately sometimes! the image below has cartoon smile by oli xl loaded up, it's 2:46 long but the thing's showing 3:33! also i've had to strip off the files' metadata so that it would be able to play them in the first place, kind of funny, kind of cute.
lil phone that's seen me thru a bunch
a samsung galaxy s7 i've taken decent enough care of that it's lasted me since late march 2017 when i bought it. i've changed the battery twice on it, in november 2020 and march 2024.
it only has one clean crack along a bottom corner of its screen, and some miscellaneous signs of wear, and i've stripped its back glass of its dye layer across the two battery changes so it has a really cool look without the case.
unfortunately i love to stack the inside of the transparent case with various things:
other things
- do also have a back-up phone since 2023 summer, a refurbished galaxy s10. it does some stuff better, but i'm committed to having the s7 as main phone til it fully gives out (or until i'm unable to get the occasional spare battery anymore)
- a specific glass mug at home for all my hot drinks needs, it initially came as packaging for some offbrand hazelnut cocoa spread, have used it since sometime 2018
- i also have this foldable manual kick scooter i got from a local re-use centre for whopping 25 euros :-) it's fun exercise
- (maybe tmi sorry haha) menstrual cup and reusable pads... tho i also have single-use ones around still just in case. but the particular reusable ones absorb a decent bit better.
- squoosh to compress still images, for this site and for the memes etc folder i sync to cloud to be able to access from phone (mega's my go-to cloudstorage these days)
- workrave (desktop application), pomodoro-timer-esque setup, it advertises itself as an anti-RSI thing but it's nice to have screen breaks for other reasons too. though in flow states i tend to suspend it for a bit as not to get interrupted by it!
- effects dsp component on foobar2000 - mostly to slow down stuff via tempo shift, rarely for other stuff for silliness
- accubattery (android app) - just cool to know details about my phone's (phones'? lol) battery and get more mileage out of it!
- suntimes (android app) - i have widgets on my phone homescreen for sunrise/sunset and moonrise/moonset/phase (based off app location aka mostly home)
- seal (android app) - an app version of yt-dlp basically. i havent looked fully under its hood, but i haven't got proficient enough with command-line yt-dlp to, say, automatically fetch the metadata which seal does do!
- wind chimes (firefox add-on) (also on chrome) by mark beasley - i barely actually have it on but it's cute to have around, in a sense
extra lore about my early internet existence
as a kid i used to frequent this estonian site, mängukoobas, play cave it translates to. it was focused on flash games but it also had a lot of creative and social things going on in it. and each user had their own little "crib" they could customize to some extents, though the general layouts were premediated, but you could put your own little header, menu buttons, whatnot... (within the site's rules of course haha). and each user also had like a little virtual mannequin thing they could buy clothes and other things for for points or sms-es, and there was a lot of usermade stuff too, added into the section by some mods of that area. and a separate site section for showing ur own art stuff. and a chatroom i frequented lots, forums as well. and so on. was quite cool, it was nice to grow up on that site
and it was quite bustling during its peak, in like mid-to-late 00s early 10s, but sadly started fizzling out sometime further on... and was finally closed permanently on march 1st 2021. sort of a mängukoobas-shaped hole in my heart and i wander the internet a bit more aimlessly since, though i've been coping alright with its absence and to be fair i wouldn't be its target audience anymore anyway, though the relative absence of such sites for the kids of nowadays is still quite sad. it's funny though, i got my first proper job nearly a couple months after the site's closure... end of a childhood truly
